In their most exciting development since setting up The Henderson Gallery in 2008, Henderson's, Scotland's legendary vegetarian restaurant, has moved into Edinburgh's West End with the launch of Henderson's @ St John's in the former Cornerstone Cafe beneath St John's Church at the corner of Princes Street and Lothian Road.
St John's is one of Edinburgh's most recognisable landmarks.. It was designed by the architect William Burn, whose other buildings include Inverness Castle, John Watson's Hospital - now the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art - and Montagu House, the MoD building in Whitehall. Work on the project began in 1816 and it was completed two years later.
The atmospheric barrel-vaulted dining room can seat up to 80 people and offers the very best in contemporary vegetarian cookery at prices that won't hurt your pocket. The laid back, family friendly atmosphere makes it the ideal place to relax over coffee and a cake, a light snack or a drink perhaps, while its central location means it is the perfect venue for meeting up with friends. Alternatively - weather permitting - you might like to sit outside and enjoy the stunning views of Edinburgh Castle, views that were secured by an Act of Parliament forbidding any further building on the south side of the church.
Henderson's @ St John's, in association with The Henderson Gallery, also intends to show a varied selection of the very best in modern art, with the grounds outside being transformed into an enthralling sculpture park. The building lends itself to all manner of occasions and already Henderson's @ St John's has had a varied programme of events including concerts, fashion shows, festive fairs and weddings.
Henderson's @ St John's is available for private hire for parties, meetings, receptions and product launches. The venue can hold up to 80 people seated or 200 standing and delicious catering can be provided from Henderson's famous kitchens. For details phone 0131 229 0212 or email :
Visitors to Henderson's @ St John's can also take the opportunity to look around the church itself and admire its many beautiful architectural features, its historic memorials and its magnificent stained glass windows.
